KATHY GIBSON TOMAN

Kathy learned to play tennis from her parents at the age of 12 on clay courts in Northern Virginia.  Her first racket was a wooden Slazenger with a big grip.  Steve started in his 30’s because golf took much time away from his family. His first racket was a  Stan Smith wooden racket.

Kathy always liked watching the Navratilova vs Evert and the Jimmy Conners vs John McEnroe tennis games.

Tennis in Timber Pines has been very rewarding, resulting in many friends.  Har-tru is Kathy’s favorite surface to play on and to teach on.  Steve is a very good golfer, woodworker, cook and gardener!!  Kathy plays golf but is often humbled by it!!

They met thru their kids who dated in New Milford, Connecticut. Steve and Kathy were widowed 22 years ago, 2 months apart.  They dated for 10 years and are married for 12years.  Between them, they have 9 kids and 22 grandchildren!!  Very busy!!

Kathy was certified as a USPTA tennis professional in the 80’s.  She taught for 47 years and still does upon request.  Steve retired as an executive vice president of Grolier Publishing.  They have lived here for 19 years and are still snowbirds enjoying the amenities and their friends.

Josephine’s Comment:  I am very grateful to Kathy for starting me off in tennis.  She is a great tennis coach.  Both Steve and Kathy are a very pleasant couple.  I love watching them dance together.
