Deb & Ed McGinley

Debbie and Ed McGinley have collected quite a few wins in tennis, but both say their best rewards have been the friends they made.  Ed played in Men’s adult and senior doubles about eight years and has gone to section tournaments and even went to Nationals once.  Debbie and Ed played mixed doubles together and also played co-ed softball together.

McGinley’s and their two children moved to Hudson in 1988 from Long Island, N.Y. when Ed retired after 20 years with the Nassau County Police Department.

Ed encouraged Debbie to join the River Crossing Country Club and she then joined the tennis groups quickly.  Today she still has those wonderful friendships.

Debbie had a lady tennis partner for ten years and both had been on teams that advanced to Sectionals.  This duo defended the No. 1 spot on Innsbrook’s Satellite Ladies Doubles League Team.  They played Women’s 3.5 and 4.0 divisions in USA League Tennis Playoffs.

Ed took his athleticism from baseball and basketball playing days at Farmingdale (N.Y.) College and converted it to tennis.  At 6’3” he was a formidable figure at the net.  His men’s team out of Innisbrook made it to Nationals in Palm Springs back when he was living in Hudson Florida.

Debbie and Ed left their beautiful home and boat in Hudson and moved to Timber Pines in November 2018.  Due to 3 knee surgeries and two neck surgeries which greatly affected his mobility, Ed now only plays golf at Timber Pines.

In Timber Pines, Debbie plays tennis on several ladies teams and mixed teams and Ed watches (coaches & critiques) in his golf cart on the sidelines.

Debbie says “The highlight in playing tennis has most definitely been the friendships we’ve developed. The teams are more like family”.

Josephine Note: The first time I met Debbie , I knew I wanted to be her friend.  She is so well balanced, likeable, trustworthy and someone that I look up to.  She is also a great role model to her children and grandson!  Oh, last but not least, she is an excellent cook.
